During a game of shogi you will be put into a situation where you must determine the position by the values of the pieces. Situations this might arise in are to determine who's winning, whether an exchange will be beneficial or not, or whether or not you should start attacking. To answer problems that may arise, you should use the general piece values. They will not work in every situation, but they should be considered throughout most of the game. There are 3 proposed value systems: the Standard system, Koji Tanigawa's system, and Yasumitsu Satou's system.
