The Shogi World is a term used to describe the community of shogi players, as well as the events that happen within the community. The Shogi World is made up of two types of players: amateurs and professionals.

Professional shogi players are members of the Japan Shogi Association (Nihon Shogi Renmei in Japanese). Professionals make a career out of shogi by playing in many tournaments within the professional shogi world. Amateur players consist of the majority of shogi players in the world, who play for fun or as a hobby.
